Select where in formula "field"

Trying to create a report for time entered on a project with a project manager (PM).   Starting with a transaction table that has an employee id for PM.   Report needs a formula field in the first page header to create "first name+last name " basically instead of employee id.   That way, the report can show project manager as "John Doe" instead of "DoeJM" say.

If I write a formula that is simply {employee.firstname} + " " + {employee.lastname}, the result is not the project manager.  I need to add where employee.employeeID = project.pmID or formula picks whatever employee's timeslip is first.  Yeah, no, not what I wanted.

But since "the remaining text does not appear to be part of the formula"  , I wondered if this is possible or not.  Obviously, a real noob at the controls here.

Conceptually, I do an initial select for records in database expert correctly in that I need all the records I pull for the section where employees time prints, BUT I only need ONE of those records for the project mgr name, and it needs to be the right one.   It's as if I am running a select inside the report.  Is this possible, or am I misguided?

If it matters, using CRW 2013.
