I agree it's likely more bloated, but we also tried ours via Java code. In BI 4.1 SP1 Patch 8, it takes over a minute for 12k rows, via Java, only 7 seconds to export to Excel. It did not seem to matter much if our preferences were set to "Prioritize easy data processing in Excel" or not. Same thing happens for PDF, CSV, and Text.

I suspect that once enough rows are in a report tab, it hits a memory issue and does a lot of page swapping to complete the task, but I have no tool to detect it. Maybe just bump up the APS mem to double and retest?
